For those being all "was xyz on video a marketing-"

This. This is what PR looks like.

Take a careful note:

  1. He does not acknowledge his attacks went beyond Jensen, such as the tweets he deleted that didn't go as viral--eg, no mention of Thompson. But if he mentions the deleted tweet, it would draw attention to it.
  2. He does not apologize, actually, or take any responsibility.
  3. He markets it back into the IP.
  4. He dodges the fact that like--you, Jared. You were the bump. You made the bump. This wasn't life itself slinging you guys a hardball to work through. You're the bump, harold.

This is what PR looks like, and this is what I meant when I said Jared would have to make a statement for cleanup, not CM. Jared's the one that fucked up. CM owed him nothing, professionally.

Even Jensen's response is carefully crafted branding.

Again, look closer. It actually doesn't imply they did anything meaningful on the business conversation. It takes the market/branding idea of brotherhood associated to the IP and vaguely attaches to it, still accidentally passively infers they aren't talking much, and makes it into an emotional sentiment to clean up both faces of the act (a hand for Jared's image--non-apology implicitly accepted--and removes any potential enduring stress on the IP image caused by the big name conflict.)

Hey, we had a nice talk. Hashtag tagline platitude.

Hey. Nice talk. Miss talking to you. Everything's cool folks, swear.

Jensen artfully smooths over potential impact on the IP he's handling now in a cordial and professional way while playing into the presented marketing opening.

Like, you miss what talks? Talks about Jared blowing up publicly on twitter and attacking your coworkers jumping to harsh accusations and calling names and probably coming in hot on the phone? Yeah, I'm sure you miss those big time.

But by not highlighting those, it plays into the general platitudes hoped for in hoping people don't catch the full scale of things.

I also need people to understand: no matter what logic you attempt to apply to this in disbelief of it being PR, by nature of its very existence, it is PR. Generally speaking, Jared should have performed this in private to begin with. And, in such, any earnest end of resolutions are also private. The only reason this conversation is public is because they need to patch up images. The posts, by nature, are performative. They are PR, by sheer fact of existing. They are crafted to let the public know (whether true or not) hey, things are okay. This performance is only needed because there was an eruption to begin with.

That said, beyond the obvious highlights, the dishonesty is clear: "talks, as we do often" via Jared; "I miss these talks" via Jensen. They didn't think about that while trying to associate their generalized "brothers, haha, family, hashtag SPNFamily" messaging. So they miss these talks about mysterious jared shaped bumps in the road that happen often and ignore Thompson as roadkill, hopefully nobody noticed that, right?

BEHOLD. THIS IS PR. HASHTAG SPN FAMILY

Yes this!!! As someone who’s worked in PR before, I was gonna make my own post, but now I’m too lazy. Both of those tweets are clearly PR. Who knows who actually wrote them, and it doesn’t matter. Jared has to save face after his Tweets last night. Jensen has to save the brand (SPN), which will fail if the whole “brotherhood” thing between him and Jared isn’t smoothed out publicly.
Bottom line, other SPN alumni (ie Misha) responded very positively to this. It isn’t clear if he already knew about the project or not, but either way, he sounds excited for it. This implies his relationship with Jensen is in a good place. Jared had the opposite reaction. Not only did he not know, but he was immediately angry and hurt. This implies his relationship with Jensen is not in a good place, and I’m gonna take a wild guess and say they don’t talk much anymore.

You know what’s sad? Having to tell my adult patients that they don’t have to be boring fucks who hate everything to be considered adults.

Seriously, people have a very weird idea of what it means to be an adult. I have patients who come to me and tell me they are unhappy with their lives and they don’t understand why, because they have a job, they have a good salary, they can pay their bills, they have a significant other, they’re doing everything right and still they’re unhappy.

And then we start talking and talking and, finally, we reach the real problem: they stopped being themselves.

I have so many patients who stopped doing things they liked - harmless things, fun things - because they felt it was innapropriate for an adult to do them.

Videogames? I’m too old for that.

Comic books? I’m too old for that.

Disney movies? That’s for kids.

Super hero movies/series? I’m an adult, I should act like one.

Going to parks/carnivals? I don’t have kids to do that with.

It’s scary how these people simply gave up on these fun hobbies just because they reached a certain age. And it’s even more scary that they don’t see the problem with this.

Adult life is more than just work, paying bills and marriage. It’s about going out with your friends, it’s about buying silly things that have no purpose but to bring you a little joy, it’s about having fun and living your life to the fullest.

You don’t have to be a boring fuck to be an “acceptable adult”. Fuck society and fuck whoever says you can’t like something because you’re “too old”.

You’re never too old to do the things you like, play the games you want to play and watch the movies/series you want to watch.

Dress up and go to Comic Con. Go to the midnight premiere of your favorite super hero movie. Read the “silly teen books” you want to read. Play that “childish” game you’ve been wanting to play.

Being an adult doesn’t mean you need to forget who you are. Being older doesn’t mean you need to let go of the things you love and enjoy.

Be unapologetically yourself and go live your best life!

I have a full time job, pay bills, and also have plushies on my bed and comic books and cosplays

They can coexist. You should enjoy your life when you can

*stares at screen* Jared is quite.. immature and rude, isn't he?

tenoko1 answered:

Jared being offended by something + access to social media has NEVER gone well, then he follows up telling his fans not to send hate and threats to people after he incited it. This is just the first time it’s been at his friends. Would it have been better he not find out via social media? Sure. Did he handle it badly and make this worse? Definitely. I don’t think anyone who’s been in this fandom a while expected otherwise. Fans, however, are 1000% responsible for themselves, and nothing justifies hateful responses. Jared’s a person and totally allowed his feelings on the matter, even if he reacted in such a way to make it worse. This too shall pass, but it would be nice if the SPN fandom wasn’t a raging dumpster fire of drama for once.
